Meaning of the Four Pillars
0 comment(s)

In Chinese Astrology there are actually four signs, not just one plus an ascendant as in Western Astrology. They are the signs of the year, month, day and hour of birth. Furthermore each has two components, an element and an animal.
Each has its own focus when it comes to understanding a person’s destiny. Throughout the years several interpretations have developed concerning the function of each.

Hour = friends, children and creative output
Day = the Self and one's partner
Month = the immediate family, aunts, uncles and first cousins/also local government and service organizations
Year = the world at large, extended family and ancestors, society, our work in the world and national governments

The following, for example, comes from a traditional feng shui master.
Year Pillar: Family background and society.
Month Pillar: Early childhood and relationship with parents.
Day Pillar: The daymaster (DM) and relationship with spouse/partner.
Hour Pillar: Career, relationship with children and old age.

Another practitioner gives it as as follows:
A year pillar represents the family background in childhood. A month pillar represents the social life and human relationships in adulthood. A day pillar represents the married life. And an hour pillar represents the living environment in later life.

For Hope:
As you can see from the above, the month sign is generally associated with childhood, the day sign adulthood, and the hour sign with old age. So, yes, as a person ages, they gravitate towards the energy of their month, then day and finally hour sign.
